(AU- Halfbreed!Akaashi x Reader)
"Poor boy..." He heard someone whispered.
"It says here that his mother was attacked by wolves before, it must have affected his growth."
"He could have a live a good life."
"Poor boy."
He continued to listen to those voices as they spoke, talking about his past and him. He wanted to see, but his eyelids felt like stones, too heavy to open. He could hear vehicles and engines, he could feel himself jerking up and down sometimes, each time he moved, his arm sting. 'It hurts.' He thought, being lost and confused, he couldn't speak either. It felt like something was stuck in his throat, preventing sounds to come out. He waited for what felt like eternity and he was getting impatient, irritated and angry. He struggled a little, but was trapped in a box-like cage. It was so tiny, one small swing from his arm and he came in contact with the bars, creating a loud echoing sound. Those people heard him, he knew that because they stopped talking all of the sudden.
After fighting for sometime, he used all his force to pry open the pair of eyelids and his gaze landed on two men in uniforms. They were half standing, with fear in their eyes. Backing off slowly, he could hear one of the men whispering again to the other one, it's unusual to be able to do so though, but he knew why.
"Shit. What if he goes crazy?" What were they saying?
"...I don't know if the cage can hold him back." Feeling the heaviness slowly leaves his body, his eyes opened slightly bigger, catching a better look at those men. He pushed himself off the cold floor, eyes not moving away at all. Suddenly, his head hit right into the roof and the pain made him panicked at once as he growled. He knew he was suppose to be calmer than this, but something's messing with him. The anger level raised up immediately at a rapid speed as he felt an incredible urge to attack something. Targeting the people right in front of him, he charges at them without thinking straight.
But to their relieve, the creature ran right into the small sized cage, successfully stopping his almost rampage that was going to break out. One of them quickly whipped out their cellphone, dialing a set of numbers, he held the phone close to his left ear and waited for the other line to answer. The other man went to the corner of this room...which looked like a cabin of a lorry and opened a chest, rummaging through it and taking out a syringe.
Fragments of memories flashes before him, as he recalled the events, how the same guy have injected that...substance into him when he was putting up a fight, why was he fighting? What did they put into him? Uncertainty started to filled his head, he was terrified to the core as his mind continued to think of ways, any ways to escape this situation, he knew he feared them as much they feared him. Continuously attacking the cage's bar, he barked at those people in uniform.
"Yamoto here, do you guys catch me? There's an emergency, Number 45441 is currently out of control, I repeat..."
Who are these people? What do they want from him?
A vision of black engulfed him as he shook his head, trying to rid the pain that was slowly numbing his left arm. He winced, and with his last bit of strength, he managed to take a peek on the syringe which have been poked into his left calves.

The room is spacious, yeah definitely better than that small little cage just now. But it's dark, darker than his very own messy hair, darker than his own lifeless eyes. He spoke nothing, because he couldn't. It was so cold, the metal floor made it even worst. The only light source was a small window which was twice his height, and the dim moonlight was shining in. A huge wave of fatigue washed over him and he quickly lied down on the floor, despite the hard surface. The pain hit him once again when he accidentally knocked his arm against the floor and growled. He helplessly watched the window as the colour changed from dark blue to white, signalling that morning has finally came.
Getting a better look of the place, there was nothing.
Empty.
Lonely.
Black bars lined up against one another.
One lone bowl was in the corner, filled with some...things. Are those suppose to be food? He cringed at the disgusting smell, those food was probably rotten already. How long did they left that here?
Suddenly, the door outside swung opened, making the boy flinched. He got on his fours immediately and started barking uncontrollably. Slowly backing off as the shadows took a step closer to him, the dark room wasn't helping either. Only catching a few parts of the person's face from the light.
It was a girl.
In her hands, she held a book.
She stood a slight distance away from the black bars, and he could feel her staring at him. He let out some grunt, signalling her to back away. She didn't move or shook.
"Hey." A voice of gentleness and love.
"Akaashi, right?" You asked. No reply.
"It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you." You reassured and flashed him a sweet smile, but he couldn't really see it. He barked a few times again. You looked at him with helplessness and moved back, hoping that it would calm him down. Taking a seat somewhere further, you opened up the book that was in your hand, feeling the gaze of the boy, you didn't say anything. Flipping through the first page, you read.
"...Once upon a time, there lived a kind old lady."
His eyes widened, what are you doing?
"She was very lonely, didn't have a single companion ever since young."
Why are you reading to a person...a thing...like him?
"She always longed for someone to be by her side. Someone to talk to."
He wanted to stop you, but his instinct told him not to do so.
"So during a one fine day in the summer, he was an unexpected guest."
Curiosity got the better of him as he listened attentively.
"The beautiful creature, with soft and warm fur."
"The lady was at a lost at the sudden appearance of life, but nevertheless, she was elated."
"Interacting with the creature was a difficult job, yet the lady handled it just fine."
Taking a deep breathe, you closed the book. The boy felt disappointed, but you smiled at him.
"If you'd like, I could read it to you again tomorrow, but you have to promise me a small favour."
'....?'
"You won't run away from me."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a daily basis, you would always visit the boy, or what those workers like to call him, the 'Capricious Beast'. Working for animal control had always been a fun job, but you have never once in your life interact with a half breed. The feeling of being the only one who could handle this job brought you pride and confidence and you promised the team that he'll be well in your care.
Akaashi Keiji, he seemed to be mature on the outside. But when he's angry, he gets really aggressive. When you were busy, other workers took turn to feed him food but he would always attack them. It was unfortunate that they would end up injured, getting scratches and bruises from the incident. It made your heart ache, seeing how he wouldn't open up to anyone.
"Hey (L/N)?" A voice called and snapped you out of your thoughts. Turning around, you found one of your co-workers there.
"Oh hi! Do you need anything?" She shook her head and laughed, before asking you some questions.
"Nah, I was just kind off curious about the...boy. Like, how do you manage to take care of him?" You blinked a few times, as those words brought memories to you.
"Oh...Well, Akaashi's parents and mine were really close. I-" before you could finish, another worker interrupted, saying that break time was over.
As usual, you would pick up the same book that you've been reading and headed towards his room. You jumped when he suddenly charged at the cage, causing an incredibly loud sound. Rage filled his eyes, but was soften when it landed on yours. In a panic state, you rushed over to him as fast as possible and held his arm, examining it. The redness spread like a wildfire and it started to swell, making guiltiness crawled up to your heart. Slowly and gently, you rubbed and blew some air.
"Are you okay? I didn't mean to scare you, I'm so sorry." You spoke in an apologetic tone, and kissed him arm with the utmost care. As if you were handling a fragile treasure.
"....I'm okay. Thank you." The voice came out so softly that you almost missed it. You looked at him before smiling in happiness and joy.
"I love it when you talk, please speak up okay? I'll help you with anything!" The boy's face was blushing red, and his tail wagged uncontrollably as he looked away. He rested his forehead against the cold bars, trying to get a closer look of you.
"You're very nice." There was a sincere smile on his face, which had a few dirt on it. You returned it and whipped out a cloth that you put between your book, dipping in into cold water before using it to wipe his face. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the sensation you were bringing to him, it was hard to have any body contact because of the bars, but yet he felt like you were right beside him.
"There, you're clean as new! Should we continue reading?"
"Of course." Flipping the book wide open, you placed in between the bars so that he could see the other half.
"The lady's companion was all she ever needed, her whole life spent on wishing for that." You finished the first sentence as you looked at him, waiting for his turn.
"....but, she knew that it was not going to be long before all of this is over."
"Why was God so cruel to play this game on her?"
"There was nothing she could do, as she watched helplessly at the companion who's gone, right in front of her pair of eyes..."
"She wished that this didn't happened, she wished that she should have done something."
"Now she's alone."
"Just like before."
"....Hey (F/N)?, do you like this lady?"
"Yeah! I think, I can relate to her pretty well."
"Are you lonely?"
"I guess...But, since you're here. I don't think so anymore."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Look! He's a fucking human being, just because he has a pair of dog ears and a tail that doesn't make him any different from us! Stop treating him with such low...service!" You bellowed at your boss.
"Are you seriously standing me up? I put you in this job not for you to get lovey-dovey with a half-dog creature. I knew it all along that you are not going to be able to this."
"Shut up! He.is.a.human. You don't have a single rights to discriminate him."
"....We're in charge of taking care of him so he don't go ballistic on our community around this area, don't you remember what he did to your own parents and his-"
"I don't want to hear it! Was it his fault? No! It's because of you...you! You claimed to treat him like an animal! Who wouldn't get angry at this situation?!"
"I WAS DOING IT FOR YOUR SAFETY!"
"LIES! All you want is just the fame of taking care of a...creature that didn't exist before! YOU ONLY WANTED THE POPULARITY!"
"GET OUT!"
And with that, you were chased out of the office. The rest of the workers looked at you in disgust, giving you judgmental looks.
"I can't believe she actually cared about that thing."
"Yeah, why? It's so..." You shot them a menacing look, making them shut up on the spot.
Holding in your tears, you quickly rushed back to his room, or should you say, his cell? He stood there looking at the window, eyes filled with sadness. It was like he longed for something, something.... You walked closer to the bars, catching his attention. He looked at you from the corner of his eyes, as you fell on your knees. You sobbed and cried, tightening your grip on the bars, wishing that you could just smash them into pieces and free him from this hell.
"Why must they do this to you...?" There was a long silence as you continued to pour your tears out, biting hard on your bottom lips, you've never felt so frustrated in your life. The pain that was stabbing in your chest, it wouldn't go away.
It's not fair, you thought.
"I...deserve this..." You lifted up your head, staring at him with shock. "I know what happened."
You wanted to comfort him, but you couldn't. Nothing you say is going to be right. The feelings of helplessness washed over you again and your tears threaten to spill like buckets again. The cell was filled with your cries of agony, you clenched your fist and pounced the iron bars. Screaming and shouting, he could feel his very own tears dripping down his face and he couldn't bare to look at you at all.
"If you...if you don't get out of here by tomorrow.....they're going to kill you. I don't want this." you spoke between hiccups.
"I accept their punishment..." his voice suddenly broke as he covered his mouth, "I destroyed your life, I ruined it."
"It's your chance to change it now then! If you...can just, run away with me..." You cried pathetically, " Then things will be just fine!...I know...they will be.."
But those words never got through.
Just like the storybook, 'There was nothing she could do, as she watched helplessly at the companion who's gone, right in front of her pair of eyes...'
The touch of his wonderful skin before he let your hand go.
The taste of his lips as he softly cried about how he scared he was.
The sight of the lifeless body, blood splattered on the walls.
The sound of his screams of pain.
The smell of his...his...
'Now she's alone.'
'Just like before.'
"Poor boy..." He heard someone whispered.
